Iraqi Researcher Urges Global Action to Protect Women and Children

by faeze mohammadi

At the international webinar “Muslim Woman,” held today (Wednesday) by the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought, Iraqi researcher Ebtisam Salman highlighted the humanitarian consequences of armed conflicts and called for decisive global action to safeguard women and children.

Speaking at the event, held under the theme “The killing of women and children as a blatant violation of international human rights laws,” Salman stressed that wars bring nothing but pain and destruction, leaving deep wounds on innocent people—especially women and children—while depriving them of security, stability, and a safe future.

Referring to the recent attack on a school in Minab, she described the incident as a human tragedy, stating: “Targeting civilians and exposing them to the disasters of war is an inhumane and unjustifiable act.”

Emphasizing that women and children are the most vulnerable groups in armed conflicts, Salman said, “The international community must adopt a firm stance to protect human dignity, support women and children, and ensure their right to live in safety and peace.”

The researcher also highlighted the status of women in Islamic teachings, noting: “Islamic law upholds the dignity of women, prohibits any form of harm or threat against them, and emphasizes kindness, justice, and care in interactions with women.”

She added that Islam grants comprehensive rights to children, stressing that “kindness, care, protection, and proper upbringing are major ethical and religious responsibilities.”

Salman also referred to United Nations principles, explaining: “According to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, every child has an inherent right to life, security, education, identity, and protection from violence and discrimination. The UN also stresses the importance of protecting women’s rights, ensuring their dignity, equality, and safety from all forms of violence.”

She concluded by calling for accountability, saying: “Ending violations against women and children requires firm global action and prosecution of those responsible. Women and children are a human trust, and their rights must be fully protected.”
