Iranian para powerlifter Atiyeh Sadat Hosseini secured two gold medals in the youth category at the 2026 African Open Para Powerlifting Championships in Oran, Algeria, delivering an impressive performance in the women’s 61kg division.
According to Iran’s National Paralympic Committee and the Iranian Sports Federation for Veterans and Persons with Disabilities, Hosseini successfully lifted 93kg in her opening attempt before raising 98kg on her second lift. Although she was unable to complete a 102kg lift in her third attempt, her combined total of 191kg was enough to earn her two youth-category gold medals.
Strong Performance on the International Stage
Competing against a field of international athletes, Hosseini demonstrated consistency and strength throughout the event. Her 191kg total secured the youth overall title, adding another significant achievement to her growing career in para powerlifting.
The result highlights the continued progress of Iran’s women’s para powerlifting program and reinforces the country’s presence among the sport’s emerging talents.
Iranian Team Competes Under the Name of Student Martyr
The Iranian para powerlifting delegation is participating in the championships under the name “Martyr Makan Nasiri,” one of the students killed in the Minab school tragedy. The designation serves as a tribute and memorial during the team’s international campaign.
