Iran’s rising para table tennis star Hananeh Nejati has clinched the gold medal in the women’s Class 8 singles event at the 2025 Asian Youth Para Games in Dubai, delivering one of the standout performances of the competition.
A Breakthrough Victory for Iran
In an intense final held at the Dubai Club for People of Determination, Nejati faced Japanese opponent Asako Kurashimo, defeating her in a dramatic 3–2 match to take the title in the U-23 Women’s Singles Class 8 category.
The win represents a major milestone in Nejati’s career. Her aggressive play, tactical precision, and mental resilience were on full display as she battled through several tight sets to secure the gold medal. This triumph adds to Iran’s growing success at the Games and highlights Nejati’s emergence as one of Asia’s most promising young para table tennis athletes.
How the Competition Unfolded
The 2025 Asian Youth Para Games, now in their fifth edition, brought together young athletes with disabilities from across Asia to compete in 11 sports, including para table tennis, athletics, swimming, taekwondo, and more.
Nejati’s path to gold was marked by consistent performance throughout the tournament. In the semifinals, she delivered outstanding table tennis to secure her spot in the final, where she ultimately prevailed in a gripping showdown against Kurashimo.
Meanwhile, in doubles action at the same event, Najati teamed with Narjes Soltan Mohammadi to compete in the U-23 Women’s Doubles Class WD14-20 category, where they earned a bronze medal after falling to Kurashimo and Miura Riri of Japan.
A Strong Showing for Iran at the Games
Nejati’s gold contributed to a strong overall performance by Iran’s para athletes at the Dubai 2025 Asian Youth Para Games, where Iran finished second in the overall medal standings. A 194-member Iranian contingent collected a total of 262 medals, including 76 gold, 96 silver, and 88 bronze, reflecting the team’s success across a wide range of disciplines — from swimming and athletics to powerlifting and wheelchair basketball — and highlighting the depth of young talent within Iran’s para sports program.
The Asian Youth Para Games have become an important stepping stone for young athletes on the road to senior international competition, including future Asian Para Games and Paralympic events. The 2025 edition ran from December 10–13 at venues across Dubai, welcoming competitors from around the continent.
