Reports that Gandhi Hospital in Tehran was damaged during the bombardment of the Iranian capital have raised serious concern at the World Health Organization.
The health commission of the Iranian Parliament confirmed that nine hospitals, including Gandhi Hospital, have been hit by Israeli‑U.S. strikes. Despite the damage, medical staff remain on duty, caring for the injured and transferring patients from the affected facilities.
Five of the attacked hospitals are in Tehran; the others are in smaller cities. While some suffered only broken windows and wall damage, Gandhi Hospital endured severe destruction and is currently being emptied for reconstruction.
WHO Director‑General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called the incident “extremely worrying” and stressed that health facilities are protected under international humanitarian law. He added that the organization is working to verify the reports and urged all parties to keep health services “#NotATarget.”
