Iranian Women Win 868 International Medals in One Year

In the past year, female athletes from Iran have amassed a remarkable 868 medals in international competitions, marking an outstanding chapter in the nation’s sports achievements.


Impressive Performance by Iranian Women in Sport

At a parliamentary session reviewing the first year of Iran’s Seventh Development Plan, the Minister of Sport and Youth, Ahmad Donyā-Māli, revealed that Iranian women secured 868 medals in international events. Among these, 140 were gold, showcasing both breadth and depth in their performances.

He also noted that there were 307 international delegations sent over the year — reflecting a strong and consistent presence of female athletes on the world stage.


Diplomatic and Institutional Gains

Aside from sporting achievements, Donyā-Māli highlighted several diplomatic and organizational successes:

  • The country secured 1,160 international sports seats, strengthening Iran’s role in global sports governance.
  • Nearly 1,900 Iranian referees have been dispatched to international competitions, contributing to more significant global engagement.
  • About 220 top Iranian athletes now compete for foreign clubs, further amplifying Iran’s influence and integration into the global sports arena.

Investing in Infrastructure & Youth

Donyā-Māli also gave an account of the Ministry’s ongoing domestic programs:

  • Over 11,500 sports facilities have been registered in the SADAK system, demonstrating a commitment to expanding infrastructure.
  • As part of Article 76 of the Seventh Development Plan, the Ministry plans to leverage 5,000 local neighborhoods, working with NGOs to increase youth-oriented social and cultural activities.
  • A “Fair‑Play” channel has been designed and is awaiting final approval by the Football Federation’s extraordinary assembly.

At the close of his speech, Ahmad Donyā-Māli expressed hope that continued cooperation between the Government and Parliament will fuel further growth in sport and empower Iran’s younger generation.

He framed the 868-medal achievement as a testament to the “zeal and determination” of Iranian women — a proud milestone for the nation’s women and for Iranian sport as a whole.
