Women of Gaza: Pioneers of Resistance and Reconstruction After the Ceasefire

by faeze mohammadi

midst the ongoing crises and wars in Gaza, women in this region have played a central and decisive role in resistance and resilience. After the announcement of the ceasefire in Gaza, while it seems that violence and military conflicts have temporarily decreased, the problems stemming from the war and siege continue.

In this context, women of Gaza not only have a crucial role in the process of resisting the enemy but also in the rebuilding and organizing of the social and humanitarian situation following the ceasefire. During past crises, women in Gaza have been present not only as devoted mothers and wives but also as social activists, aid workers, and even fighters on various fronts. While many men were called to the battlefronts, these women took on key responsibilities in maintaining family cohesion, collecting humanitarian aid, caring for the wounded, and rebuilding destroyed areas.

Meanwhile, with the ceasefire, new responsibilities, such as the psychological and physical reconstruction of the community—especially among women—have become even more important. The ceasefire agreement has created conditions that allow women in Gaza to contribute to the rebuilding of their families and restoring peace in homes and communities. However, this does not mean the end of the problems. Many women are still facing challenges such as the loss of loved ones, displacement, psychological and physical trauma, and lack of medical facilities.

Many healthcare centers have been destroyed, and women, especially in the field of mental health, urgently need continuous support. After the ceasefire, women of Gaza remain at the forefront of reconstruction efforts. Many of them are working to create a new social space where not only daily life can return to normal, but also sustainable development and justice can be established. Women in Gaza are organizing to provide psychological support to the affected, improve health and medical conditions, and rebuild infrastructure. These selfless roles demonstrate the strength and determination that these women possess in the face of hard problems and growing challenges.

Ultimately, despite the ceasefire, many challenges remain for the women of Gaza. The need for additional support, including healthcare, psychological, and social services, to help women rebuild themselves and their community, is critical. These women, who have been symbols of resistance, will continue to play an irreplaceable role in establishing peace and reconstruction in the post-ceasefire era.
