Commemoration of a Historic Day and Symbol

The conference coincided with the first of Ṣafar, the anniversary of Lady Zaynab’s arrival in Damascus with the captives of Karbala—a powerful emblem of violence against women and children. This day was designated as Iraq’s national Day for Combatting Violence Against Women by the late Sayed Abdul Aziz Hakim seventeen years ago, with formal approval by the Iraqi Council of Ministers.

Key Messages: Women’s Dignity, an End to Violence, and Solidarity

Speakers and participants reinforced the elevated status of women in Islamic societies and demanded a worldwide end to violence against women. They placed particular emphasis on the urgent need to save the oppressed people of Gaza—especially women and children—from the atrocities of the Israeli regime.
