Muslim Nurse’s Self-Care Coloring Book

by خانم هاشمی

A Muslim nurse in England has launched a unique initiative to help Muslim women reduce stress and deepen their understanding of Islamic principles.

Aiysha Kawsar, a 29-year-old nurse from Bury, has designed a new coloring book to help Muslim women unwind while connecting with their faith.

The Inspiration Behind the “Self-Care Muslimah Era”

The idea for the coloring book came to Aiysha after a friend shared how much she enjoyed coloring. As a neonatal nurse at Royal Bolton Hospital, Aiysha often finds it challenging to find personal downtime.

“I’m a busy, on-the-go woman,” Aiysha shared. “As women, it feels like we never truly find time to rest. We often neglect ourselves by prioritizing work and family life.”

She explained, “When my friend mentioned she loved coloring, the idea of an Islamic coloring book came to mind. There didn’t seem to be anything else quite like it.”

What’s Inside the Book

Titled “The Self-Care Muslimah Era,” the 35-page book features Quranic verses and illustrations of women engaging in everyday activities, such as drinking coffee or using a treadmill, all while wearing a hijab. Aiysha hopes the book will resonate with women of all ages.

“Trying to integrate into the Western world while learning our religion can be challenging,” she added. “We want to pray and make it a priority. With this book, we can pause, reflect, and reconnect with our faith. It offers a way for us to do that effectively.”

Connecting Faith and Daily Life

Aiysha also aimed to demonstrate that Muslim women can engage in “normal” daily activities while still practicing their faith. “I also hope my non-Muslim friends can use it as a fun way to learn more about our culture, interact with Islam, and enjoy the illustrations,” she said.

She meticulously oversaw the production process, “I didn’t know anything about printing, so I found a local printer and made sure everything was on high-quality paper and aesthetically pleasing. We’ve received great feedback, and I can’t believe it’s out now.”

The book is available for purchase through Aiysha’s Instagram page.
