More than allies, brothers in blood and spirit. This heartfelt expression from an Iranian woman unveils a portrayal of the unbreakable bond between Iran and Syria, a connection woven from the threads of shared memories – the scent of home, the taste of childhood – and cemented by the shared weight of immeasurable loss. This brotherhood, extending beyond borders, speaks of a bond that has endured countless hardships and remains unshaken in its hope for a brighter future.

It’s not that I disliked the scent of our local soap, no! The soap was just a pretext, a way to connect with you, a little something carrying your name, becoming a souvenir…
Olives! It’s not that I was unfamiliar with olives; all our neighbors had olive trees. But your olives were an excuse to remember you in my homeland, a tangible link to your presence there.
It’s not like we lacked spices! No. Za’atar was the reason, the subtle reminder. When sprinkled over food, it would tug at the corner of our minds, pulling us back to the bustling Damascus market, all the way to the shrine of Sayyidah Zaynab. We call her Aqila, the wise one, our Imam’s beloved sister.
We used to buy dolls for our daughters near the resting place of Ruqayyah…
There were so many reasons to cherish you…
And there still are, but a heavy sorrow constantly marches before our eyes, a lump rising in our throats, stealing our breath…
But let’s move on…
Since childhood, you’ve been like a “friend and brother” to us, so much so that even when we beat you in football, we couldn’t bring ourselves to celebrate with full enthusiasm!
Strong Bonds
It was as if geographical distance couldn’t touch our bond. On your soil, we have mementos that are yet to return and wounds that haven’t fully healed. The mere mention of Khan Tuman exposes the pain we hold deep within.
In Aleppo, on the fortress walls, we find countless inscriptions in Persian script, testaments to our shared past.
Our bond wasn’t defined by Arab identity, or any single label…
Our friendship carried the essence of true brotherhood…
Your grief was our grief when beheadings were carried out in the name of Islam.
Your grief is our grief, even now, as they continue to commit such atrocities under the guise of religion…
I have faith in God, in miracles, and in the words of my leader who said: “Syria will be liberated by the youth of Syria.“
“Indeed, We have granted you a clear victory.” (Quran 48:1)
That moment is coming when the remnants of Israeli will be swept away.
“O God, bless our master, the Imam of our Time (May God hasten his reappearance).”
