UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher urges Security Council to assess Israel’s compliance with obligations in Gaza, warning of devastating conditions.
New York (Exclusive Translation by Jahan Banu from Nasa FM) — The United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator, Tom Fletcher, has called on the UN Security Council to determine whether Israel is fulfilling its obligations in Gaza, warning that the humanitarian situation has deteriorated into a “catastrophic” state.
Speaking in New York, Fletcher stated:
“As the occupying power, Israel is obligated to ensure access to food and medical supplies for civilians—yet this is not happening. Instead, innocent people face death, injury, forced displacement, and the stripping of their dignity.”

Key Warnings from the UN Official:
🔴 “Words fail to describe the horrors in Gaza.”
🔴 “Food is running out. Those trying to secure it risk being shot. People are dying while trying to feed their families.”
🔴 “Using starvation as a weapon of war is unequivocally a war crime.”
Fletcher also condemned recent statements by Israeli officials suggesting the deliberate deprivation of food for Palestinians, emphasizing:
“We cannot—and must not—choose between demanding an end to starvation in Gaza and calling for the unconditional release of all hostages.”
He further stressed:
“We must combat antisemitism with every fiber of our being, but Israel must also be held to the same legal standards as all other nations.”
