The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports the martyrdom of a 23-year-old pregnant woman in the occupied West Bank, following gunfire by Israeli soldiers. The tragic incident occurred in the Nur Shams refugee camp, as tensions escalate in the region.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced that a 23-year-old pregnant Palestinian woman, identified as Sundus Jamal Mohammed Shalabi, was killed on Sunday, February 10, 2025, in the Nur Shams refugee camp located in the occupied West Bank. The shooting, carried out by Israeli soldiers, also resulted in the death of her unborn child and left her husband severely injured.
The Ministry of Health stated that Shalabi, who was eight months pregnant at the time of the attack, was shot while leaving her home with her husband. Palestinian news agencies, citing eyewitnesses, reported that the couple was targeted by Israeli forces as they were leaving their residence.
The Israeli military has refused to provide details on the incident, and there are no official reports on the exact circumstances surrounding the death of the Palestinian woman. However, this shooting is part of an ongoing escalation in the West Bank. The Israeli army has been expanding its military operations in northern West Bank, particularly in the Nur Shams refugee camp near Tulkarm, since the beginning of January.
The recent surge in military actions, which began on January 21, 2025, and spread to Jenin, Tulkarm, Al-Far’a, and Tamoun, has led to widespread destruction, forcing thousands of Palestinians to flee their homes. According to Palestinian reports, the current Israeli military campaign is one of the most devastating attacks in the region in recent years.
In addition, the Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported the martyrdom of dozens of Palestinians in the ongoing military offensive.
Human Rights Watch recently released a report detailing the severe consequences of Israel’s blockade of Gaza, highlighting how attacks on healthcare facilities and restrictions on humanitarian aid are exacerbating risks for pregnant women, endangering their health and lives during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care. The 50-page report calls attention to the dire situation faced by Palestinian women in Gaza due to the ongoing conflict.
