The 18th edition of the International Film Festival of Resistance will host a special workshop titled “Women and Resistance” aimed at international filmmakers. This workshop aims to educate documentary filmmakers and produce unique content centered around the theme of resistance and the role of women in resistance.
Workshop Focus: Women’s Role in Resistance
Esrafil Kaliji, the head of the festival’s International Committee, highlighted the significance of the “Women and Resistance” workshop, which will take place at the Shahid Avini School of Art and Media in Tehran. Kaliji explained that the workshop’s goal is to train international documentary filmmakers and develop specialized content focused on resistance and the pivotal role women play in it.
Kaliji added, “One of the primary objectives of the festival is to foster educational, developmental, production, and support opportunities for talented filmmakers in the field of resistance filmmaking. Given the critical role of women in various spheres, especially in resistance movements, this workshop will focus on providing an opportunity for greater and more impactful participation of women in this field.”
Promoting Women’s Presence in Resistance
Kaliji emphasized the increasingly prominent role women have played in resistance movements in recent years. “Ignoring this vital role can have negative repercussions for other aspects of resistance,” he said.
Kaliji further stressed that in a time when adversaries are attempting to diminish women’s roles in cultural and resistance arenas, highlighting and documenting the invaluable contributions of women in both family and society is of utmost importance. He noted that film and documentary arts are ideal mediums to convey this essential narrative.

International Participation and Educational Impact
Marzieh Minaei Poor, head of the Women’s Group at the festival, discussed the strong international interest in the workshop.
Participants from countries including Russia, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Kashmir, Venezuela, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Tajikistan, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Yemen, the UK, Indonesia, China, Myanmar, Turkey, and Nigeria have registered for the event.
Minaei Poor shared that the workshop will provide invaluable assistance to participants in documentary filmmaking and media activities. “This workshop will help identify talents and capabilities among the participants while offering practical training to produce valuable resistance documentaries,” she explained.
At the end of the workshop, participants will receive a certificate from the Shahid Avini School of Art. Additionally, each participant will submit a documentary focused on the local concerns and challenges of their region to the festival.
