32 women in Saudi Arabia are preparing to complete the locomotive driving training program; so they can drive the high-speed trains between the cities of Mecca and Medina in this country.
Yesterday, Saudi Arabian Railways released a clip; of some of these female trainees talking about their unique experience learning to be train conductors.
Bashar bin Khalid Al-Malek, CEO of Saudi Railways, wrote on Twitter: “Preparing the first group of female conductors of the Haramain High-Speed Train is our pride and a confirmation of our great trust in women and their role in achieving the goals of the vision of 2030”.
According to an Iranian News Agency : “The announcement of hiring women as train conductors in Saudi Arabia was made last February. Women widely approved this initiative, and about 30 thousand young women registered for it. As a result, only 32 women were eligible for this job. Now, these 32 trainees are undergoing a one-year training program in Jeddah city and they will be given four thousand Saudi Riyals salary. This payment will be doubled as soon as they start their official work”.
This is the first time that train driving is given to women in Saudi Arabia. After completing the training, these women will work on the Haramain high-speed train that connects Madinah to Makkah.
