Iranian Woman Wins BRICS Women’s Startups Competition

An Iranian woman has made history by winning the prestigious BRICS Women’s Startups competition. Afrouz Bavafa Bejandi, CEO of “Soor Creative Media Arts,” impressed the international jury with her innovative approach to animation production using artificial intelligence.

The competition, which took place from June 3rd to October 18th, 2024 in Russia, aims to recognize and support women-led startups from the BRICS nations. This event has become a cornerstone of the BRICS Women Business Alliance in 2024, attracting over 1,000 applications from 30 countries including Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Russia, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Belarus, Botswana, Indonesia, Zimbabwe, Kazakhstan, Colombia, Lesotho, Kyrgyzstan, Mauritania, Namibia, Uzbekistan, Eswatini, Turkey, the Central African Republic, Tanzania, Nigeria, Ghana, Ecuador, Vietnam, and Honduras.

Global reach and diverse applications

Among the winning projects were innovative ideas for process automation in the energy and infrastructure sectors, robotics, artificial intelligence applications in medicine, education, agriculture, manufacturing, and aerospace, as well as solutions for combating cancer and infertility.

In total, 26 winners from 14 countries were selected by an international jury, with Iran being one of them. The winning countries include Russia, Brazil, India, China, South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Lesotho.

Afrouz Bavafa Bejandi, Iran’s representative in the competition and CEO of the knowledge-based company “Soor Creative Media Arts,” had her project shortlisted for the final round. The company specializes in producing cinematic animations and short clips for international digital platforms.
