On 10 July, during the early days of Muharram, the Kosar Women’s Section in Istanbul organised a solemn ceremony dedicated to honouring Lady Zainab (peace be upon her) and the captives of Karbala. Held exclusively for women after the noon prayer at the Kosar Cultural Centre, the event was warmly received by attendees.

Speakers highlighted that “Karbala is not just a tragic event, but a symbol of patience, the defence of Islamic identity, and resistance.”

During the speeches, a representative of the organisers spoke about Lady Zainab’s historical role, underscoring her courage in conveying the message of Ashura and resisting the Umayyad regime.

A poignant part of the programme included a dramatic play depicting the martyrdom of Ali al‑Asghar (peace be upon him), featuring emotionally charged scenes.
Poetic Recollection and Mourning Ritual
Following the drama, a poem was recited describing the harrowing scenes of Karbala—children’s thirst, the captivity of women—adding emotional depth to the atmosphere. The ceremony concluded with rhythmic chest‑beating (sineh‑zani) accompanied by elegies.
