A serious ethical scandal involving a senior commander of Israel’s elite Nachshon unit—responsible for riot control and prison operations—has been confirmed after allegations of long-term sexual abuse surfaced.
Allegations Emerge from Within Nachshon
According to Hebrew-language site NewsOne, the commander of the Nachshon unit learned that one of his senior officers had been sexually assaulting a subordinate female guard for an extended period. The case came to light when another senior officer, allegedly to avoid disciplinary action, revealed the abuse and claimed it was part of a conspiracy, also mentioning theft and embezzlement within the unit .
Preliminary Investigations Confirm Misconduct
Early investigations have validated the claims. They further revealed that the senior officer in question had an inappropriate relationship with a 31-year-old married female guard, whose spouse is also with the police. Authorities say there is sufficient evidence to take administrative action against both individuals .
About the Nachshon Unit
The Nachshon unit, the Israel Prison Service’s main operational and intervention force, was established in 1973. It functions as the rapid-response team inside prison facilities, ensures security during prisoner transfers, conducts weapon and contraband searches, and provides protection to staff and courts.
Location and Officer’s Rank Remain Unspecified
The reports did not specify the prison where the abuse occurred nor the rank of the implicated officer. However, given the seriousness of the unit’s responsibilities, the confirmation of such misconduct has prompted swift administrative review and further inquiry.
