The Rise of the Third Model of Womanhood

by خانم هاشمی

A new paradigm of womanhood is emerging, one that challenges traditional gender roles and promotes a more balanced and fulfilling life. This “third model” recognizes women’s multifaceted nature, encompassing both domestic and intellectual pursuits. It seeks to empower women to reach their full potential without compromising their identity or values.

A society that forces women to exploit their femininity for basic necessities will inevitably grapple with psychological issues and trauma. Conversely, a society where women actively strive to elevate humanity, regardless of gender, to the pinnacle of happiness, and where they contribute based on their capabilities and societal needs, is destined for dynamism and mental well-being.

A Balanced Perspective

According to Jahanbanou from Hawzah news agency, Zahra Sobhani, a religious scholar, highlights the historical significance of women’s movements and their impact on society. She argues that a ‘third model‘ of womanhood, rooted in Islamic teachings, offers a more comprehensive and empowering perspective. This model envisions women as multifaceted individuals capable of both domestic and intellectual pursuits, actively contributing to society.

The National Book of the Year for Women initiative exemplifies this ‘third model,’ showcasing women’s achievements and promoting a more balanced view of femininity:

The Third Model of Women

“‘The National Women’s Book of the Year Conference‘ is a movement that has worked day and night for 18 months to present a different image of women to the world by examining books and scientific works in various fields written by women, an image that stands honestly against the model of a woman reduced to her body rather than her mind, and speaks of the “third model of women“.

A model based on the views of the Imams of the community (Ayatollah Khamenei and Ayatollah Khomeini), and rooted in our religion and culture. In this model, a woman is both a mother, a housewife, and a scholar, yet she is not unaware of her role and impact on society.

Despite all the personal and social difficulties she faces, this woman, with the banner of thought and knowledge, seeks to pave the way for human happiness.

Although there are still untold difficulties in this path, especially in the family dimension, we cannot ignore the positive effects of this struggle.

A Practical Example

In the fourth round of this blessed event, what was most noticeable were the organizers of this conference, who were mostly women this time. The feminine subtleties were evident in the execution of each program. This means that in the third model, women are not at war with themselves but, while preserving all the feminine components that God has entrusted to them, have stepped into this struggle in the right way and while preserving norms, knowledgeably.

As someone who has been involved in the holding of this conference, I must congratulate and commend these great steps that have showcased women’s abilities with modesty, subtlety, and in the best way possible, and I pray that this path continues and shines with this noble goal.”
