The Iranian Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized a European Parliament resolution on women’s rights in Iran, denouncing it as a politically motivated attempt to interfere in the country’s internal affairs and ignoring the real progress made by Iranian women.
Marzieh Afkham, Director General for Human Rights and Women’s Affairs at the Ministry, dismissed the resolution’s contents, highlighting the active and leading role of women in Iran’s overall progress. Citing documented statistics on women’s growing participation in social, economic, and political spheres, she stated that these verifiable facts demonstrate the reality of women’s advancement in Iranian society. She asserted that biased resolutions cannot distort or negate the positive trajectory of women’s engagement in the country.
Afkham further criticized the European Parliament’s continued support for what she called the “apartheid regime of Israel,” despite growing global outcry against its human rights violations and alleged crimes against humanity. She expressed disappointment that the Parliament while claiming to represent European democratic values, ignores public protests against Israel’s treatment of Palestinians.
The Director General accused the resolution’s sponsors of pursuing a deliberate campaign to misrepresent social developments in Iran. She urged the European Parliament to reflect the genuine concerns of its constituents by condemning the systematic killing of innocent Palestinian women and children and demanding accountability from Israeli leaders.
