At age 32, Ruwa Romman is making history once again. Now a member of the Georgia House of Representatives, she has officially launched her campaign for governor of Georgia in 2026—potentially becoming the first Muslim woman ever elected to that post.
A Trailblazer in Georgia Politics
Born in Jordan to a Palestinian family, Romman moved to the United States at age seven. In 2022, she won a seat in the Georgia House of Representatives for District 97, making her the first Muslim woman—and first Palestinian American—to serve in Georgia’s state legislature.
Her current campaign for governor positions her among a competitive field of Democratic contenders including former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, ex-Republican-turned-Democrat Geoff Duncan, and others.
